If you need to replace a server in your cluster, we recommend that you add the new node first and ensure that it is stable before removing the old node if possible. If you are planning to build a support environment for your RAC database, you should plan to test these procedures regularly on each release of Oracle, as the software is still evolving rapidly. If you do not have a support environment for your RAC database, ensure that you fully back up your RAC cluster, including the operating system, CRS home, OCR, voting disk, and database before attempting to add or delete nodes. Also, consult the current documentation and the MetaLink web site for changes in these procedures.

Note You could, if you prefer, remove the case-sensitivity match altogether to make it even more difficult for someone to guess usernames and passwords (in other words, not only do they need to guess the username, but they need to know the exact case of the username).
